Nutrition & Herbs to Fuel your Outdoor Adventures
Summer is the season of outdoor adventure, and now that the weather is warm and the days are longer we find ourselves happily out of our routines and ready to explore the outdoors. If you find yourself itching to get outside and go on some nature adventure yourself, with some simple planning you can pack all of the essentials you’ll need to feel your best and thrive on those active outdoor days!
Pack your Snacks
Some of the best snacks to take on your outdoor adventures are those that will keep you nourished and energized for the long haul. These include fresh fruits, nuts and seeds, quality protein and healthy fats.
Almond butter stuffed dates
Oranges and clementines
Dried fruit leathers
Cashews, almonds, peanuts, walnuts and pecans with coconut flakes and chia seeds
Banana with cashew or peanut butter
Drink your Herbs
Staying hydrated is key when enjoying the outdoors in the warmer months. Always pack plenty of water and drink regularly to maintain cellular hydration and electrolyte balance to keep your energy up!
Herbal tea bags are wonderful to take on a hike with you to throw in your water bottle even if it’s just room temperature water. Over time, the water extracts the herbal goodness in each sachet. Some of the best herbs to take with you on outdoor adventures include:
Turmeric Active to support your every move.
Three Mint for an extra refreshing & bright way to hydrate.
Supreme Matcha Green to replenish with whole leaf green tea & fine matcha powder
As a good rule of thumb, aim to consume at least half of your body weight (in ounces) of water per day, especially when you’re keeping active outdoors. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, that’s 80 ounces of water.
Rest and Recover
After any period of physical activity, it’s important to give your body time to rest and recover. This allows your nervous system to realign and relax, and your muscles and joints can begin the gentle repair process through your body’s natural (and healthy!) inflammatory response. This recovery time is an essential time for you to replenish your reserves, and feel gratitude that your body is capable of taking you on active adventures. Take notice: is there any part of your body that feels particularly sore or exhausted? Give that part of your body extra attention, either through local massage, a long warm soak, mindful meditation, or gently stretching and breathing into that area of your body. You can always enjoy a cup of Turmeric Active tea to help your body recover from your active excursions, and let the delicious combination of turmeric, ginger, licorice and nettle soothe your spirit and support your body in it’s natural recovery.
